TORNADO,LANCASTER,OHIO,STORMS,SKYWATCH FRIDAY

On October 26th 2010:: Officially six tornadoes touched down in the state of Ohio. If you live in Lancaster,Ohio the best view would be from Mount Pleasant.. I’ll share some photos from that day.

TORNADOWARNIGNG  DSC_0003 When these photos were taken the storm warning sirens in Lancaster,Ohio were blaring.

First photo,I’m heading to the top of Mount Pleasant DSC_0009

Next a series of photos taken from the top of Mount Pleasant showing the city of Lancaster as the storm approached. Thank goodness there was no tornado in Lancaster but we did have some strong in-line winds and a lot of rain.

At this point I’m getting ready to get off Mount Pleasant. There were two other (NUTS) up there besides myself. Two of us left and the other fellow stayed. (He had a camera LOL)

Really getting windy and starting to rain. There is a cave about thirty seconds from where I’m standing that offered protection from wind/rain.

Watery Wednesday at Flint Ridge Memorial State Park in Licking County Ohio.

FLINT RIDGE,LANCASTER OHIO,NATIONAL ROAD,PONDS

A WATERY WEDNESDAY POST

DSC_0038

Not Walden Pond which is located in Concord, Massachusetts, in the United States.

DSC_0040

The pond is in the middle of what used to be an ancient American Indian civilization that arose in Ohio and other parts of eastern North America during the Middle Woodland Period, perhaps as early as 100 BC.(The Hopewell culture) As an aside Linda and I had our first date at an Indian Mound in Newark,Ohio. (A picnic about this time of year)

DSC_0041

Each Labor Day weekend there is a Knap-In, a gathering of flint knappers and workers in other primitive arts.

DSC_0042

Flint Ridge State Memorial is located southeast of Newark, Ohio at State Route 668 and Flint Ridge Road.Just north of Route 40 The National Road and sometimes called the Hopewell National Road.

DSC_0043

Have been thinking about doing a series of posts about areas of interest close to  "The Historic National Road" (Today the alignment is mostly followed by U.S. Highway 40.)

CROPPED MAP

Lancaster,Ohio where I live is only about thirty miles south of the National  Road. Today, since this is a Watery Wednesday post I didn’t show any of the other photos from FLINT RIDGE. | will save that for a future post. NOW just for fun::: In thinking about ponds I thought about “On Golden Pond” So let’s take a peek at Jane Fonda at age 44 in a bikini. You will have to click (watch on YouTube)

"THE GREATEST FREE SHOW ON EARTH"

CIRCLEVILLE PUMPKIN SHOW FOR MY QUALITY TIME

Well,the Circleville Pumpkin Show is over for another year but maybe I can keep it going virtually with a “That’s My World” post.

DSC_0081

A couple murals on one of the downtown buildings

DSC_0080

The Pumpkin Show is fair, clean and above reproach in every respect contributing largely to its becoming the sixth largest festival in the United States with an annual attendance in four days and nights of over 300,000 persons and its claim to being the "GREATEST FREE SHOW ON EARTH" as no admission charge or entry fee is made. DSC_0024

“The Pumpkin Show is held every 3rd Wednesday through Saturday in October, however, local citizens are encouraged to preview the festival on Tuesday. Rumors have persisted about adding extra days.”

DSC_0032

“The Pumpkin Show was silenced for one year during World War I and two years during World War II. Aside from this three-year gap, there have been no other recorded occurrences of the Circleville Pumpkin Show being halted - by snow, sleet, or scorching heat.”

The Purpose of Life & How to achieve Happiness for Scenic Spiritual Sunday

 A MY QUALITY TIME ::SCENIC::SPIRITUAL SUNDAY POST

The purpose of life: For me the purpose of life is to be happy.

How to achieve happiness: For me the journey from selfish to selfless is the road I trudge in seeking happiness.

DSC_0005

I have found; the more I care for the happiness of others, the greater my own sense of well-being. Very simply a  matter of perspective.

DSC_0017

DSC_0008

DSC_0016

As I see it, happiness depends upon two specific criteria: 1. The Physical ( a healthy body ) and  2. Mental (attitude)….. Unless I have a physical ailment I often don’t even think about my “body” but my mind on the other hand registers everything. So, I devote more time and effort developing a “peaceful” mind.

DSC_0021

DSC_0040

Three traits to cultivate: LOVE, COMPASSION,and HUMILITY.

100_6809

No man is an island (apology to Paul Simon) love lies at the very foundation of human existence.

100_6857

Strive for COMPASSION based on reason instead of an emotional response.

DSC_0028

I know how to be arrogant,boastful,and vain. I’ve had years of practice. Humility is just the opposite. One gains HUMILITY by being selfless instead of selfish. “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”

DSC_0081
I was extremely ambitious and full of anger because my ambitions were not being met. I had the diseases  of “MORE” and “SELF”.

DSC_0011 Today I define ambition as “The deep desire to live a useful life and walk humbly under the Grace of God.” ( as you may understand him) A life changing definition, at least for me.

DSC_0012 What can be done about anger and resentments? Anger is merely a secondary emotion based on FEAR and a resentment is merely a re-feeling of the anger, but I know them well.

DSC_0064 As I trudge the road of happy destiny I have found some tools to help me deal with anger. 1. The Prayer of Saint Francis specifically the first two lines;

“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love”  If I repeat those two lines a few times any anger seems to melt away. 2. The well known Serenity Prayer:
“God,
Grant me the serenity;
To accept the things I cannot change;
The courage, to change the things I can;
And the wisdom, to know the difference.“ ( I NEED ALL THE WISDOM I CAN GET)

DSC_0084

“Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as a pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
If I surrender to His Will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life
And supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.”::::::::::::::In my life the greatest “growth” as a human being has occurred during times that were excruciatingly difficult.
DSC_0042
I usually try to start and end each day with two prayers. 1. “Lord relieve me of the bondage of self so I may better do thy will.”
2. The Lords Prayer and how does it start “Our Father” which reminds me we are all brothers and sisters. (easy to forget sometimes)
