Thoughts on Materialism

DSC_0032

“We have sacrificed the old immaterial gods, and now we are occupying the temple of the Market-God. He organizes our economy, our politics, our habits, our lives, and even provides us with rates and credit cards and gives us the appearance of happiness.
“It seems that we have been born only to consume and to consume, and when we can no longer consume, we have a feeling of frustration, and we suffer from poverty, and we are auto-marginalized.” Uruguay’s humble president, Jose Mujica

“President José Mujica of Uruguay, a 78-year-old former Marxist guerrilla who spent 14 years in prison, mostly in solitary confinement lives simply and rejects the perks of the presidency. Mujica has refused to live at the Presidential Palace or have a motorcade. He lives in a one-bedroom house on his wife’s farm and drives a 1987 Volkswagen. “There have been years when I would have been happy just to have a mattress,” IF you want to know a little more CLICK

JOETODDSAYS210 I need to learn a little more about Jose’ Mujica…. and just for today I’m going to be a little more grateful for what I have.

That's my new thing to learn today. I hadn't heard a thing about this lovely man. I'll read more about him when I can as well ... and will definitely feel grateful for all.

I'm a died in the wool capitalist but I also think business must serve a social function. It seems that we are way out of balance in this country.
