Beware The Domovoi this Christmas Season

Always learning something new……. LOL

domovi

“Originating in Slavic mythology, the hairy little imp known as the domovoi is one of the world’s creepier household gods. As the legends go, each house has a personal domovoi, which usually resides somewhere beneath the threshold, under the stove, or in the oven. The creatures are sometimes thought to be the spirit of the original head of the household.

Domovoi take the form of a tiny old man, about the size of a small child, with a long gray beard. Sometimes they mirror aspects of a family ancestor, or even the current head of the household. They can also take on animal form, appearing as a cat, a dog, or even a snake.

To keep the domovoi content, you must keep a tidy household. The home needs to be kept in good condition, with dishes cleaned and put away, food not left out—unless it’s a small table offering to the domovoi.

If the domovoi are happy, they might come out at night and perform small chores around the house and yard. However, if the domovoi becomes upset with the condition of the house or their treatment, they turn into pests, stealing small items, breaking things around the house, and disturbing people’s sleep, among other nuisances.” READ MORE

domovi  Linda keeps our house really neat and clean but I must have pissed them off cause food comes up missing all the time. (usually ice cream)

Tomatoes for the 2017 Garden

Well the weather here in Ohio sucks. I really don’t like those cold cloudy rainy/snowy days.. What better way to spend a morning…order garden seeds……

0107-amish-paste-tomato  “The Amish Paste Tomato.. The Amish Paste heirloom tomato is, as the name implies, a plum tomato of Amish origins, that is commonly used for cooking, although it's sweet enough to eat fresh. This is one of the larger "paste" varieties of tomato, its fruit growing from 6 to 12 ounces. It varies widely in shape, from "oxheart" to plum, and though coreless, is somewhat seedier and sweeter than normal paste cultivars. They tend to ripen 80 to 85 days after planting.” (No disease resistance with this tomato that I know of.)

tomate-defiant-phr-f1 The Defiant PhR (F1) tomato. According to the catalog, this tomato has not only “high” resistance to late blight, but also has “intermediate” resistance to early blight. ( I’ve been having problems with early blight.) Defiant has very good taste, and is similar to Celebrity, a well known slicer. The Defiant is a determinate tomato. That means a tomato generally makes one large crop and then it is finished – which is great if you≠re canning.

JungSeed ‘Mountain Merit’ is a large-fruited, determinate, fresh-market F1 hybrid tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) resistant to late blight [Phytophthora infestans (Montagne, Bary)]; verticillium wilt (Verticillium dahliae); fusarium wilt [Fusarium oxysporium f.sp. lycopersici (Sacc.) W.C. Snyder and H.N. Hans] races 1, 2, and 3; tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV); and root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.).  ( So take that…….) “An AAS Winner! If you like Celebrity Tomato, you'll love Mountain Merit! We think this tomato matches all the fine qualities of the popular Celebrity tomato with some notable improvements. The 3" to 3.5" round, beefsteak-type fruits are larger, weighing in at 8 to 10 ounces each. They have deep red color inside and out with smooth, crack-resistant skin and barely noticeable blossom end scars. A mild, true tomato flavor along with a firm texture makes them perfect for slicing and sandwiches.”

Tomato,%20Juliet%20Hybrid-Vegetable%20Seeds Juliet Roma Grape Tomato…. “Slightly larger than the well-known Santa grape tomato, Juliet bears delicious, sweet fruit on indeterminate vines. Some gardeners refer to it as a mini Roma because of the shape. The wonderfully sweet fruit are crack resistant and remain in good condition on the vine longer than most cherry tomatoes. The fruit are as soft and juicy as cherry tomatoes, they hold up well in salads, even leftovers, and they have a longer shelf life so you can keep them on hand without picking every day. The vigorous vines set lots of fruit on long trusses and keep setting fruit throughout the summer. Quite heat tolerant. Vines are long and vigorous, so give the plant room to tumble over its cage. Tolerant to late blight. Resistant to early blight. One of the longest-lasting tomatoes in the garden. Hybrid.”

MQTlogoa “Christmas is, notoriously, a time for nostalgia and for many ‘Christmas present’ is considered never to be quite the same as ‘Christmas past.”

“Today, the word “nostalgia” carries positive, day dreamy associations, but it was coined to refer to experiences that were terrifying and sad.” READ MORE (interesting)

100_0374 The Ghost of Christmas Past is the first of the three spirits (after the visitation by Jacob Marley) to haunt Ebenezer Scrooge. This angelic spirit shows Scrooge scenes from his past that occurred on or around Christmas, in order to demonstrate to him the necessity of changing his ways. “These are the shadows of things that have been. That they are what they are, do not blame me!”
