TAKING A BREAK FROM THE BEACH WE WILL VISIT CONKLES HOLLOW STATE NATURE PRESERVE

Carve your name on the wall of a sandstone gorge and have the gorge named after you. That is what happened to W.J. Conkle

hollow1

Conkle's Hollow is situated off S.R. 374 on Big Pine Road in the Hocking Hills area of S.E, Ohio.

hollow2

The photos above are taken from the “Rim Trail” which is on top of the cliffs and circles the gorge. Vertical cliffs that rise over 200 feet and 300 feet from cliff to cliff. I would not recommend this trail for young children for one must use extreme caution when hiking this area. For a trail map CLICK.

lindacollagedone

Have I ever mentioned  how fortunate I am to have such a great “hiking partner.” One winter while hiking the rim trail my “hiking partner” slipped and fell in the snow. I grabbed the hood of her coat and saved the day. (what a guy)

hollow3

Top left photo looks down into the gorge from the rim trail. Bottom left shows the length of the gorge. The bottom two photos shows the “picnic area” where we finished the hike with picnic lunch. Fall in Ohio sure can be  beautiful.

Autumn days are here again!

In autumn when the trees are brown
The little leaves come tumbling down
They do not make the slightest sound
But lie so quietly on the ground
Until the wind comes puffing by
And blows them off towards the sky.

The winds will blow their own freshness into you,
and the storms their energy,
while cares will drop away from you
like the leaves of Autumn.

Fall poem by John Muir

leaves Ted R. is still on the trail trudging thru the leaves. Takes him a little longer because of his short legs. When he catches up I’m sure he would say, “Thanks for stopping by.”

And thought of naught to say,
And morning found the breeze

THE BEACH (AT FORT MYERS BEACH) WITH SANDCASTLE

A FEW PHOTOS FROM FORT MYERS BEACH (THE BEACH) A SCENIC SUNDAY POST.

SANDCASTLE1

Sandcastle

Author Unknown

From the beach its sandy walls rise,
Its turrets reach up to touch the skies.
A tiny moat dissolves the keep.
Its pavers are strong, though only two inches deep.
Tiny footprints embedded in the sand,
Where once a child there did stand.
Its grace and beauty a short time will last,
Before the sea washes it into the past.

BEACH CHAIR Ted R. is taking a dip in the ocean but says thanks for stopping by.

We had the sky up there, all speckled with stars, and we used to lay on our backs and look up at them, and discuss about whether they was made or only just happened.” Mark Twain

When I can see skies like this I wake up saying “Good morning, God!” rather than “Good God, it’s morning!”

Footprints
by Margaret Powers

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scene from his life. He noticed two sets of footprints in the sand.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him he noticed that many times there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it was at the very lowest times in his life.

He questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied, "My precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

FROM LANCASTER,OHIO TO FORT MYERS BEACH, FLORIDA. A WANDERING ROAD TRIP ON INTERSTATE 75

LANCASTER,OHIO FORT MYERS BEACH, FLORIDA. A ROAD TRIP ON INTERSTATE 75

Well we are a few miles down the road and just about to enter the great state of Florida but need a break and some gas and who do we meet, Moses.

100_4056

We told Moses we were on a wandering road trip and he told us, “just because your wandering doesn’t mean your lost.” He had a couple other pretty good stories and insisted we try some of those free samples. Boiled peanuts , boiling  in the back of his building.boiledpeanuts2 and don’t forget Honey Roasted Pecans. Well we topped that off with a big glass of orangejuice1  Orange Juice and we were on our way. Thanks Moses for your hospitality.
