OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY WINS THE ROSE BOWL 2010 (A MY WORLD TUESDAY POST)

Ohio State Fight the Team Acro...Introduced at a pep rally for the 1915 Illinois game, Fight the Team Across the Field made its Ohio Field debut at the same game.

my world Tuesday A MY WORLD TUESDAY POST.

On New Years Day I watched THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY foot ball team play  at the ROSE BOWL and what a game it was. A quick visit to Columbus,Ohio and the University is in order.

Ohio State Hang On Sloopy - Oh... Hang on Sloopy is the song of choice by the team and fans alike

A QUICK GLIMPSE AT SOME OF THE CAMPUS. ( I had the good fortune to be there as a student from 1964-1969)

FRAMEDMARKER

As I face this Historical Marker Mirror Lake is to my back. To find out where OSU played their first home game on November 1 1890 CLICK. Next, we have a frozen Mirror Lake (I could tell a few stories)

FRAMEDMIRRORLAKE

This is where I learned to walk at a very fast pace going from one class to the next.( Loved organic chemistry lab ) but after spending three hours in “lab” at lunch no one wanted to sit next to me (BAD SMELL).

FRAMEDOSUWINTER2010 Those hills may not look that big but when skate boards first came out that entire area was filled with skate boarders in the evenings (including myself). One evening I loaned my “board” to some gal from Baker Hall and the first time she went down the hill she fell and broke her leg.

Several virtual tours of the campus are available just CLICK.

STRADLEY HALL is where I lived for most of my five years at Ohio State. For me in many ways it was the Best of Times and the Worst of Times. I just wish I knew then what I know now. This quick visit to OSU has brought back a lot of memories and it was a fun place to visit on this cold January day.

In Closing:

FRAMEDATM

1. “Buckeyes” has been the official Ohio State nickname since 1950

2. The tradition of placing Buckeye Leaves on the Ohio State helmets was started in 1968 by Woody Hayes

3.The Victory Bell is rung after every Ohio State victory. It was a gift of the classes of 1943, 1944 and 1945.

4.Scarlet and Gray:Ohio State’s official school colors since 1878

A HOCKING HILLS HIKE to show a little of MY WORLD

( A GREAT WAY TO SPEND SOME QUALITY TIME IS TO CHECK OUT MY WORLD TUESDAY)

MYWORLD In the Hocking Hills we have Clear Creek Metro Park. An area of  scenic cliffs and rugged rock formations. This is part of MY WORLD. To discover more parts of our interesting world click on the link or logo.

There is an interesting area I have been wanting to explore. In a previous post  I have talked about and shown photos of the Thomas Cabin and the Mathias Cabin. These two cabins are separated by a ridge that runs between them. The top of the ridge is about 100 feet higher in elevation than the two cabins.

For this post I am going to start at the high point of the hike and work backwards.

RIDGEHIKE2    This is the highest elevation of the hike. At my back is another cliff about forty feet high and no easy way to climb (and I’m not prepared to climb it today anyway). I am standing on the spine of the ridge and it falls off to my front, right, and left.

RIDGEHIKECOLLAGE1

Top left photo shows the cliff at my back. Top right photo shows skyline and the two bottom photos show the woods to the left and right.

100_5705 A close up of the Black Hand Sandstone  that predominates in this area. We will now start to head back down. (That sand stone is just a little weathered which is how I feel today)

RIDGEHIKECOLLAGE2

After going about 100 feet I found a level spot bottom left photo. I sat down by a tree took a couple photos of the sky through the trees and took a nap. (The sun was out and I did dress warmly) and down we go ( Love those Gnarly Trees )

RIDGEHIKECOLLAGE3

Top left photo (where I had been) then down—down—and looking back up.

RIDGEHIKECOLLAGE4

The top two photos show what I think is the remnants of an old “spring house”  Just another view below left

LARGE FORMATIONS OF Black Hand Sandstone

sun2 The sun was out and the days are getting longer. If I just weighed about 30 pounds less than I do now this hike would have been much easier. You know in the spring I’m going to have to climb that last cliff and explore the rest of the ridge between the cabins. As Always Thanks for stopping by….

YouTube video of Clear Creek Metro Park Jan 2009 shows photo of one of the cabins.
