Fort St. Simons (see above map) is located at the southern end of St. Simons Island. The fort stood at the site of today's St. Simons Lighthouse  A cannon aims out over St. Simons Sound to commemorate the site.

I had never heard of this particular war…. “The 1742 Invasion of Georgia was a military campaign by Spanish forces, based in Florida, which attempted to seize and occupy disputed territory held by the British colony of Georgia. The campaign was part of a larger conflict which became known as the War of Jenkins' Ear.”

Located on the interior coast of Georgia's St.
Simons Island, Fort Frederica National Monument preserves the remains of one of the most impressive British settlements ever carved from the American forests.

The Word Of The Day “Silence” at My Quality Time

DSC_0051

“Let us do as the prophet says: "I will take heed of my ways, that I offend not with my tongue. I have set a guard to my mouth. I was dumb and was humbled, and kept silence even from good words." Here the prophet teaches us that if we should at times, for the love of silence, refrain from good talk, we should with more reason still, for fear of sin's punishment, eschew all evil talk. On account of the great value of silence, therefore, let leave to speak be seldom granted to observant disciples, even though it be for good, holy, and edifying conversations; for it is written: "In much speaking you shall not escape sin" and elsewhere: "Death and life are in the power of the tongue." It becomes the master to speak and to teach; but it befits the disciple to be silent and to listen. If anything be asked of the superior, therefore, let it be sought with all humility and respectful submission. But as for buffoonery and talk that is vain and stirs laughter, we condemn such things everywhere with a perpetual ban, and forbid the disciple to open his mouth for such conversation.
--Rule of St. Benedict, ch. 6, "On Silence"

Just A Tomato Joke..

poohpepper Pooh got a pepper not a tomato…

TOMATOGUYINTHEGARDEN

A small boy was looking at the red ripe tomatoes growing in the farmer's garden. "I'll give you my two pennies for that tomato," said the boy pointing to a beautiful, large, ripe fruit hanging on the vine.
"No," said the farmer, "I get a dime for a tomato like that one."
The small boy pointed to a smaller green one, "Will you take two pennies for that one?"
"Yes," replied the farmer, "I'll give you that one for two cents."
"OK," said the lad, sealing the deal by putting the coins in the farmer's hand, "I'll pick it up in about a week."

Back Roads and Rural Routes:: When I was new to driving, one of my favorite things to do was to try and get lost. I would drive for hours and go places I had never been before. I explored back roads that I never knew existed, and these are things I still do today.(Can you say Garmin LOL)

This is the 20th anniversary of the hot rod tour, and each year, a different route is selected. The main objective is to stay off the freeways and stick to two-lane roads because it makes the drive more exciting, especially when people know the hot rods are coming.
