WINTER SKIES & EDITORIAL::WHY NO SLEDDING ?

A SKY WATCH FRIDAY POSTskywatchlogo

FRAMEDSKY

Linda and I on our recent “road trip” visited her Mom and Brothers (Near Chicago) and this is what the skies looked like after dropping 12 inches of snow  LOL. Then on to Toledo,Ohio where we visited my son Nathan his wife Cassie and the GRANDKIDS.

NOW “WHY NO SLEDDING”

1. Sledding might be healthy

sledding

2. Excess Fresh Air and Sunshine (POSSIBLE OVER PRODUCTION OF VITAMIN D)

3. Decrease in sales of video games etc. etc. Less texting minutes used, and the off chance children might talk to one another.

DANGER: The children in the above photos have taken a stand FOR SLEDDING. Please contact any and all politicians. Hearings must be held. Impose new taxes and fines on all sled makers and this trend can be stopped in it’s sled tracks.

nice skies! But the pictures of the grandkids are (almost) enough to make me long for some snow. They are having so much fun! (Too much I guess, according the sign.,)

Gosh Joe---I wouldn't want you to get too much exercise or too much Vit. D... I think you just need to sit around watching TV and eating hot, buttered popcorn!!!!! ha ha ha

I do have one question for you... WHY in the winter did you all go to Chicago??? Don't you know that you need to go SOUTH in the winter and NORTH in the summer?????

Great pictures though... I also liked the pictures of the new RV's. Fancy stuff!!!!

Wonderful to see blue skies...in your pictures and yesterday, for the first time in weeks...here! What a lift!

I Googled "Ft Miamis no sledding" and found the 2005 municipal meeting minutes. The the reason for the no sledding: "MetroParks indicated to Council that Ft. Miami Park has received National Historical Park recognition as a historic site and must be maintained according to National Park regulations which specifically states that the site must be maintained as a historical shrine" or the property can no longer be a state historical site and reverts to the grantor's ownership.

I guess no kids ever sledded on it when it was becoming historic...? :-/

June you are correct. That is pretty much what the sign says.Maybe by putting the sign up and then not enforcing the policy is "ok" but then again what does that teach our kids???

sometimes winter events get cancelled over here because it's the wrong type of snow! WTF?

The one thing I really miss about living in the upper northwest (rather than in the lower where I am now) is the big flowsy billowy snow. It's hardly ever this pretty in north Texas, so thanks for sharing these, Joe.

I enjoyed the sledding pictures. They brought back memories of my northern Indiana childhood.

Sledding is so great! We all used to fly down a short steep hill with a creek at the bottom and try to jump it. I'm sure it would now be illegal to sled there. We've protected everyone into being a real softie.
