The history of creating glass can be traced back to 3500 BCE in Mesopotamia. The term glass developed in the late Roman Empire. It was in the Roman glassmaking center at Trier, now in modern Germany, that the late-Latin term glesum originated, probably from a Germanic word for a transparent, lustrous substance.

What a gorgeous feast for the eyes! And some very interesting history, painlessly taught! How fun to visit -- thanks for sharing. The amber (yellow?) glass is my favorite.
I love Heisey glass! Thanks for the tour!!!! Maybe I'll head down there this summer if I mend well!!!!!
I did not know about his place Joe. I will have to remember that when we go out that way. All that lovely glass. Thanks for the heads about and posting about it.
Wow! You definitely did mean a FEAST for the eyes! I enjoyed every photo, and went back to look at some of them twice! I would absolutely swoon in this place! The house as a museum would be a very interesting visit but to have the glass museum collection also. Wonderful!
