Get Ready For Fall 9/22/2010 Autumnal equinox doesn't officially begin until 11:09 tonight

Saturday, October 16 & Sunday, October 17 - Conkle's Hollow

Conkle's Hollow is a wonderful place to enjoy the splendor of an Ohio autumn. Choose the accessibility of the Lower Gorge trail or the more challenging Upper Rim trail. READ MORE

Today is one of the only two days a year when the day and night are equal length. Make every minute count!

Celebrate the cool, crisp days ahead with a picnic at Conkle’s Hollow.

hollow 017 I’ll tell you what I’m not looking forward to; the loss of about two minutes of light each day. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you make the most of each and every day. I try to live one day at a time and enjoy each moment as it comes.

Autumn days are here again!

In autumn when the trees are brown
The little leaves come tumbling down
They do not make the slightest sound
But lie so quietly on the ground
Until the wind comes puffing by
And blows them off towards the sky.

The winds will blow their own freshness into you,
and the storms their energy,
while cares will drop away from you
like the leaves of Autumn.

A trip back in time to Malabar Farm where Louis Bromfield used to hang his hat

Love those frugal one tank trips. Today we are going to visit “Malabar Farm where Sustainable farming meets environmental, economic, and social objectives simultaneously.” A THAT’S MY WORLD TUESDAY POST

Map picture

Malabar Farm State Park
4050 Bromfield Rd. Lucas,OH. is S.E. of Mansfield,Ohio and just a few short miles from interstate 71 on Pleasant Valley Rd.

Denise Vales (our very capable guide) is standing beside Mr. Bromfields restored 1946 Willys Jeep which he used for farm chores. Next a little about Mr. Bromfield:

Louis Bromfield December 27, 1896 – March 18, 1956 was an American author and conservationist who gained international recognition winning the Pulitzer Prize and pioneering innovative scientific farming concepts. One of Mansfield, Ohio's most famous natives, his home was Malabar Farm near Lucas, Ohio, from 1939 until his death in 1956. Bromfield was also friends with some of the most celebrated personalities of his era, including famous architect F. F. Schnitzer, and provided the location for Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall's wedding.CLICK to read more from Wikipedia… Let’s take a look inside:

If you are at all interested in checking out Mr. Bromfields award winning books please visit the Quality Time Bromfield Bookstore

Mr. Bromfield was a gracious host. Many famous people of the time visited Malabar Farm.

FRAMEDWEDDING  Next photo is of the Honeymoon suite. Notice the separate beds (style of the time) but at least the beds had rollers on them. LOL

In this collage you can see one of a couple original Grandma Moses paintings (Winter Scene). Now you tell me, who is in the photo  bottom right.

Malabar Farm Visitors Center, Malabar Farm Restaurant, Malabar Farm Produce Stand and even an International Hostel with an ever flowing natural spring bottom right. I always like to talk a little about food: “To experience fine French Cuisine locally you need only travel outside Mansfield , Ohio to Malabar Farm in Lucas.  Enjoy our signature Chicken Caesar Salade and a cup of Forest Mushroom Soupe, hand cut Steaks or Blackened Salmon.” CLICK on above link to read more.

joetoddjeep Joe Todd says, “Thanks for stopping by and if you stay at the Hostel;”              ( 1946 was a great year)

Special thanks to Ohio State Parks and Denise Vales
