Political Flogging of a Dead Horse

MQTlogoa A QUALITY TIME REPORT

Flog a Dead Horse:::   To waste effort on something when there is no chance of succeeding.

flogging

However, Politicians have found more advanced strategies to use.

politician1 A few examples::::

1. Buying a stronger whip
2. Appointing a committee to study the horse
3. Changing riders
4. Arranging to visit other countries to see how other cultures flog dead horses.
5. Lowering the standards so that the dead horse can be included.
6. Reclassifying the dead horse as "living impaired".
7. Hiring outside contractors to flog the dead horse.
8. Harnessing several dead horses together to increase speed.
9. Proving additional funding to increase dead horse's performance.
10. Rewriting the expected performance requirement for all horses.
11. Promoting the dead horse to supervisory position.

JOHN1 The first recorded use of the expression in its modern sense was by the English politician and orator John Bright, referring to the Reform Act of 1867, which called for more democratic representation in Parliament. Trying to rouse Parliament from its apathy on the issue, he said in a speech, would be like trying to flog a dead horse to make it pull a load.

a1 Thanks for stopping by My Quality Time. We hope you were able to LOL

I’ll leave you with one last thought:: Why close the barn door after the horse is gone?

Several tales of the appearance of sundogs have existed in popular culture. Some say a sundog brings good luck when spotted on a long journey, others say it will bring a radical change in weather conditions, such as rain.

Camping On Jekyll Island Georgia our Home away from Home..

CAMPING CAMPING CAMPING CAMPING AND MORE..

MQTlogoa Joe Todd reporting from Jekyll Island Campground … (A Few Thoughts On Camping)

Map picture

Linda and I spent about one week at this campground the first part of May (tent site 16). Excellent Campground and we had all sunshine with temps ranging from 65 degrees a night to 85 degrees during the day….

This was our home away from home. We have had this Eureka tent for over thirty years. It has seen a lot of use (North South East West) and it is still going strong… Thanks Eureka

“The place which you have selected for your camp, though never so rough and grim, begins at once to have its attractions, and becomes a very centre of civilization to you: “Home is home, be it never so homely.” – Henry David Thoreau….. Linda tells me I’ll be cooking breakfast in the morning.

“How hard to realize that every camp of men or beast has this glorious starry firmament for a roof!  In such places standing alone on the mountain-top it is easy to realize that whatever special nests we make - leaves and moss like the marmots and birds, or tents or piled stone - we all dwell in a house of one room - the world with the firmament for its roof - and are sailing the celestial spaces without leaving any track.”  ~John Muir …. Linda says, “That is all well and good but where is breakfast?”

Camping tip #1… If you are camping for any length of time and using a Coleman/Propane Stove get a 10 gallon propane tank. I used to get so tired of carrying and then disposing of the individual tanks

pptank If you look closely you can just make out the top of my 10 gallon tank. ( Just trying to be a little easier on the environment)

FAV1 I even did the dishes when I got a

120px-RoundTuit Ok one more camping tip. That would be tip #2… Did you notice the size of the Eureka Tent? Well, when one gets a little older one might have to make a couple trips to the bathroom during the night and the bathroom might be a little distant from your camp. So……

DSC_0002a The Luggable Loo fit nicely in the corner of the tent and saved a lot of steps….

Linda and I say, “ thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for more on Jekyll Island.”

“Pitch your tent, park your RV or camper under the magnificent oaks on the northern tip of Jekyll Island! Located opposite the Clam Creek Picnic Area, you are near by Driftwood Beach, the fishing pier and fascinating historic ruins.” READ MORE

DSC_0006A ALERT: In case anyone is considering doing some camping this spring or summer, please note the following public service announcement: In Alaska, tourists are warned to wear tiny bells on their clothing when hiking in bear country. The bells warn away MOST bears. Tourists are also cautioned to watch the ground on the trail, paying particular attention to bear droppings to be alert for the presence of Grizzly Bears. One can tell a Grizzly dropping because it has tiny bells in it. (sorry)

Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States Cinco de Mayo has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. Cinco de Mayo traditions include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States. READ MORE

“SINKO DE MAYO” THE UNTOLD STORY:::::::::

Hellmans

Each Year On May 5th

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's Mayonnaise was Manufactured in England.  In fact,The Titanic was carrying 10,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.  This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico ...  But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York.  The ship hit an iceberg and sank.

titanic

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss.  Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning. The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5 and is known,of course, as - Sinko De Mayo.
