“Fort Miami Honors Student With Memorial Tree Planting
BY NANCY GAGNET — MIRROR REPORTER
A pine tree planted along the walk leading to the front doors of Fort Miami Elementary School during the Earth Day Celebration on April 30 will forever be known as Gabe’s Tree.
The tree was planted in memory of 8-year-old Gabriel DuBois, who attended the school before he was diagnosed in December with a rare form of lung cancer. He died on April 26.
“This tree is a symbol of all that he gave to us at Fort Miami and the Maumee community and will remind us that he is among us as he joins Claire and T.J. as protectors of the fort,” said principal Dwight Fertig, referring to former students Claire Rubini and T.J. Croll, who died in 2000.
Second-graders Seth Pasquinelli and William Fraker and Gabe’s father Scott DuBois helped scoop dirt on the tree.”

I love your grandson's smile. Glad that he had someone to brighten his days in the hospital. What a great thing to plant a tree in honor of Gabe, and it was wonderful that William could help to plant it.

Have a great day. We are home from the beach --and I will post in the morning.
