SKIES ARE CLOUDY IN LANCASTER, OHIO

SKY3

The Afternoon Sail at 2:00 p.m. is generally a livelier, more exhilarating sail among the islands of Frenchman Bay, because of the stronger afternoon sea breezes. Relax, have a picnic or help us hoist the sails!

For a little history of THE SCHOONER MARGARET TODD just click.

The women raising the sails. That is my wife Linda (A VERY HOT WOMAN) on the left. She actually sprained her back doing this chore.

“The Margaret Todd carries nine sails on her four masts. The large sails are called, from front to back, the foresail, mainsail, mizzensail, and spankersail. (These sails are named after the mast which carries it). The five smaller sails are the jib topsail, inner and outer jibs, staysail and the spanker topsail.”

clip2 If you look closely there are some skies in the photos. Make sure to go to SKY WATCH FRIDAY for great photos from all over the world. Thanks for stopping by Joe Todd

THAT’S MY WORLD TUESDAY A TRIP TO GERMAN VILLAGE COLUMBUS,OHIO

GM1

German Village consists of 233 acres and is a preeminent historic district. Schiller Park was originally known as Stewart’s Grove and today is the home of Oktoberfest, family reunions, and Sanger fests.

GM2

You will have to go to Schiller Park in person to see the statue of The umbrella girl.

100_3580 I stopped by the Meeting Haus and had a chat with Norm Burns a retired dentist and Ohio State University alumni. Norm suggested I watch the following video narrated by Andrea Cambern. Norm enrolled at OSU the same year Woody Hayes became football coach at OSU.

From there I was off to the book loft and a unique bookstore it is.

GM4

One could easily spend many hours just at the bookstore but as usual I’m getting hungry so a short trip thru the neighborhood and

GM3 Love the village architecture  wrought iron fences and extensive use of brick are hallmarks of the area. It’s time to eat..

100_3514

A stop at Max and Erma’s  739 S. Third St. or if you are not all that hungry and just need some caffeine.

100_3521  Then I discovered the old school house that is now home for “craft’s for sale” made by senior citizens.

That’s Velma sitting at the desk. She let me know there were crafts upstairs, downstairs,on the stairs,in the principals office and in the coat room. ( I’m here to tell you the prices are “right”)

My favorite: 100_3530

This very unique place is run under the auspices of The Columbus Dept. of Recreation. ( Let’s give them a big thanks)

I’ll bet you can’t tell what I went home with? Just a little present for my wife Linda.

100_3537  Well German Village is a great place to visit and I certainly didn’t have enough time to spend exploring everything. So I will be going back. One place Norm suggested checking out both inside and out is:

100_3519  Norm said they have some magnificent frescos inside.

100_3518 Thanks for stopping by and check out more great places in this world of ours by going to: That's My World Tuesday

In closing I would like to mention two things:

1. To learn a little more about Wahkeena check out  BEING A HOMETOWN TOURIST BY Kathy Kirk.

2. With the government cutbacks Wahkeena could use our help. If you're interested in helping support the Wahkeena Nature Preserve on a local or personal level, you can contact Mr. Shisler at 740-746-8695 or 1-800-297-1883 (toll free). Mr. Shisler is the naturalist for Wahkeena.

What I like to do best is take a nap out in the woods and this is the spot. (other than eating)

QUICK VISIT TO THE NORTH MARKET COLUMBUS,OHIO

Map picture

Just north of Vine St.  you will find the North Market. I found it to be a great place to explore and have a great lunch.

COLLAGE1

I recently visit Julie's blog and had a chance to visit Pikes Market in Seattle via the internet and thought, “there is a market in Columbus,Ohio.” ( I will get to Pikes Market in person)

COLLAGE2

You can follow what’s going on at the market on Twitter,Facebook, or their very own Blog .

COLLAGE3

I arrived just after they opened and was surprised to find several bicycles in the parking lot. Actually, there were more bicycles than cars to start with.

COLLAGE4

All around the market are some great places to eat. I have yet to check them all out but will make it a priority.

collage5

Leaving the North Market behind and heading south on High Street I find myself in downtown Columbus.

100_3507

Next stop German Village but that will be another post.
