A MYSTERY IN THE HOCKING HILLS

mypictr_Skype

I was hiking in the woods the other day ( one of my favorite spots) and of course I didn't stay on the trail. I found something in the woods that just shouldn't be there. All I will say right now is; what I found leads somewhere and has a purpose. Is it on the up and up or is there something sinister out there in the woods? Hopefully I will be able to blog about it later. Thanks, Joe Todd  Morning 11/17/09.

Well I’m back several hours later and didn’t solve the mystery. I’ll show you some of what I found then I hope you let me know what you think.

PARK LAND IN THE HOCKING HILLS.

100_4705 On the trail to the mystery area and this is what I found way off the trail.

collage1

An electric line mostly under the leaves or underground. See how it is buried under the old fallen log so has been there for awhile. Next I’ll show you a collage showing what the area looks like north, south, east, and west.

collage2  I followed the wire/cable whatever you want to call it for about 100 feet which wasn’t the easiest thing to do (mostly buried or under leaves and logs) So I don’t know where it comes from nor where it goes or why. I stopped following the cable and just hiked the area hoping to find something and I did.

100_4728 Not much help. I was starting to get a little paranoid.Walking through all those leaves making a lot of noise. So I headed back to the main trail and just sat in the leaves waiting and watching.

collage3

I was sitting at the base of the rock lower right picture looking down into the conservation area top photo. Three white tail deer passed behind me (sorry couldn’t get a photo). Then I heard a dog barking off in the distance in the general area where I had been. About a half hour later two men are walking out of the ravine at bottom of hill (top photo ). They must have  been in the woods before I was. Where did they come from and where did they go. There were no other cars in the parking area at the trailhead. Also, there was no dog with them.

100_4763 Well if I could just be where the clouds are looking down I would have a different perspective. Ah yes Google Earth. Well there is a cleared area in the middle of a large forested area near where I was but

100_4769  I guess if I hiked in I wouldn’t be breaking any rules. But:::

100_4742 On balance I’m not sure what to do. What do you think?

THOMAS ALVA EDISON WINTER ESTATE IN FORT MYERS, FLORIDA

Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) An American inventor.

A THATS MY WORLD TUESDAY POST. CLICK ON THIS LINK AND DISCOVER THE WORLD.

100_4378

On our recent “wandering” road trip to FORT MYERS, FLORIDA Linda and I had the opportunity to tour the Edison/Ford winter estates. We started with a little chat with Mrs. Edison.

100_4377

Now Mrs.. Edison reminded us that her husband was born in Milan,Ohio

done1

so if you are ever in Ohio take the time to stop by his birthplace. Now for a quick picture tour of the estate:

housecollage

Looks like a nice place to hangout with President Harding,Ford,Firestone, and others. A lot of work coming up with  inventions. 100_4308   Back to the house:

Next stop office,workshop,and lab:

Edison was quite an angler and living right on the Caloosahatchee river in Fort Myers gave him many opportunities. In the photo below you can see the pier at his estate.

edisonpiercollage  That is Linda lower right holding onto some Bamboo. I’ve heard it said Edison made his own poles and tackle. If you would like to read about an encounter  Edison had with a shark CLICK. Edison also liked to do some camping.

camping I guess you dressed differently to go camping in the 1920s. Being the inventor he was maybe he came up with:

StudebakerRV_resized 1929 Studebaker RV. You think I’m kidding well read the story HERE.

Ted R. is taking a break so Mr. Gecko from the estate says, “Thanks for stopping by.”

Gecko Also, did you know Thomas Edison has his own NATIONAL PARK.

100_4334 Maybe next time Mr. Ford.

LETS GET READY FOR THANKSGIVING (THANKS KATE AND BRENT) DOUBLE CHEESE CRAB DIP

Double Cheese Crab Dip

You'll Need:
1 Cup Pace Salsa (Campbell's has to push Pace since I think they're the same company)
1 Teaspoon Chili Powder
1 8 ounce package of cream cheese (softened, i.e. heat in microwave for 15 seconds)
1 Can (8 oz) refrigerated crab meat (although I used the crab sticks from the Upscale Brookshire's and it was just as good and fresh)
1 Cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/4 cup sliced pitted ripe olives (although I left this out because, let's face it, some people are picky and won't eat them)
Pita triangles/tortilla chips/fresh vegetables for dipping

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine and stir salsa and chili pepper in a small bowl. Spread cream cheese on bottom of 9 inch pie pan. Top with salsa mixture, crab meat (if you get the sticks, you should shred them with a fork and knife first), cheddar cheese and olives. Bake for 15 minutes or until the mixture is hot and bubbling. Top with additional salsa (whatever's left in the jar after your take out your cup full). Serve with pita triangles, tortilla chips or fresh vegetables for dipping. I used tortilla chips.
