HAVE A GREAT ONE FROM JOE TODD AND LINDA
Happy Memorial Day to you and Linda, Joe. We do need to say a special prayer for all of those service men and women who died while giving us the freedom we enjoy. May God Bless All of them.Have a wonderful day,Betsy
May I ask you if it is Ok to say Happy memorial day? I asked because I was told off for say happy for a reverence day. I was told we should have respect for those who have died and there fore wishing a Happy Memorial day is inappropriate.
Ann that is a good question. In the U.S.A. the term have a happy Memorial Day is used quite a bit. My own opinion;there is nothing wrong in doing so. A memorial service is actually a celebration of the life the person had. I don't think there is a contradiction in being respectful/reverent and happy, but that is just my opinion.
A lovely post. And interesting comment aand your answer there up above.
SOME COMMENTS FROM MY FACEBOOK FRIENDS: Donna Azbell commented on your status: "I've been reflecting this past week as I'm sure most of America has and truly believe that as Americans we have the obligation to be the best people we can be and to live a happy life and that is the way we honor those that have given and are giving so much. God Bless!"Susan Dilliard Rausch commented on your status: "Good one Donna, I agree!! Whats the alternative.... Have a Sad Memorial Day!"Michael F. Hatcher commented on your status: "I don't believe the departed would want us to spend the day moping due to their passing. They would want us to celebrate their short time with us, which is appropriate. Go for it Todd"Kathy Sabo commented on your status: "I think it's appropriate..Although a loved one died for their country, they died for us so we could be happy. Part of being grateful for me is being happy. Thanks to your friend in New Zealand for even thinking of this day for us. May you all have a "Happy Memorial Day". :)"Linda Dix commented on your status: "Wow - I think it IS appropriate to wish a Happy Memorial Day - believeing the intent is to acknowledge the holiday, not necessarily meaning they wish you have tons of fun at the beach. A very thoughtful question on the part of the New Zealander. "
Thank you Joe,Great discussion. May be with the New Zealanders, and Australians, I won't use the word Happy. Almost all young men here went to the wars, and out of respect for the survivors and their families, ANZAC day is a very very solemn occasion. So solemn that want Mondaylisation despite it being on Saturday. Shops are not allowed to open.
Joe, you and I are of the same mind about "Happy Memorial Day." For Ann, I did question, when I left work on Friday, whether or not that phrase was appropriate...I settled for "Have a good Memorial Day."This is a holiday that really has two sides to it: the happy freedom-loving, proud side; and the solemn quiet moments of reflection.
hope you enjoyed the day!
