“Figure out what you love to do, then figure out how to get paid to do it.” "Technically, we're all half centaur." “No matter how you decide to spend a little more time on your gestures of giving, the point is just quite simply that you do.”

“Always maintain the attitude of a student. When a person thinks they have finished learning, that is when bitterness and disappointment can set in, as that person will wake up everyday wondering when someone is going to throw a parade in their honour for being so smart.”

"The best way to garden is to put on a wide-brimmed straw hat and some old clothes.  And with a hoe in one hand and a cold drink in the other, tell somebody else where to dig."

I love formal gardens, Joe, but Oregon isn't exactly rich in them. There is a nice one within about an eighty minute drive from here (Oregon Garden it's called), but it was only started in 2002, so it's nothing like the old ones I remember from my many years in the Deep South.

You're a vigorous, strong looking fellow, you know, the kind I always envied. You look like you're probably big-boned, and that should protect you somewhat from bone and joint problems. I'm medium-boned, and when I started college, I was 5'10" and weighed a 115 pounds. As you might imagine, I hated being that way, but by the time I was 30, I had gotten up to 160 and stayed there for much of my adult life. I used to work out, and I got as high as 185 for a short time and looked damned good if I do say so myself. Now, I weigh 175, and it's not muscle either. Meanwhile, I've shrunk to 5'10".
