TROUT FISHING GENESSE RIVER WELLSVILLE NEW YORK NEAR ALLEGHENY NATIONAL FOREST

Linda and I are back from New York and we had a great time. In the next couple days hope to get caught up with all my blogging friends.

  That’s me on the left and Chuck on the right and we are getting ready to do a little fishing. Chuck lives near Wellsville and the Genesee River is only about 100 ft. behind his house.

There had been a lot of rain so the river was relatively high ( and cold ) and not as clear as usual. After a couple hours of fishing the score was Chuck four Todd zero. Chuck caught three trout and one smallmouth bass.

Linda had a great time to. She met some new bears.

BOY’S INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL RD. TO REVENGE AND CLEARCREEK RD. LANCASTER,OHIO.

A My World Tuesday Post

     First stop is the Lancaster soap box derby where we meet the general manager Richard Gordon.  Richard  is willing to give me the “cooks tour” of the museum.

"The Greatest Amateur Racing Event in the World" Or “The Soap Box Derby” got it’s start in Dayton,Ohio in 1933. Old No. 7 became the symbol for the derby for years to come.

     If I remember correctly the top left photo shows “world championship cars” and the top right photo shows a couple of the first cars to race in Lancaster,Ohio. When I was a kid the “cars” were stick built now they all come in kits.

     You may be asking, why is it called  Boy’s Industrial School Rd. Well:

 “Southeastern Correctional Institution originally known as Ohio Reform Farm (or School)  was authorized by the Ohio General Assembly on April 7, 1856. The Ohio Department of Mental Hygiene and Correction began overseeing the Boys’ Industrial School in 1954. The institution ceased to operate as a juvenile reformatory in July 1980 and the campus was converted to a medium security prison. Comedian Bob Hope spent some time at the Boy's Industrial School as a child. As an adult, Hope donated sizable sums of money to the institution.” Click  for more history. ( BY THE WAY I WAS NEVER THERE AS AN INMATE. AS THEY SAY “CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR”)

Fairfield County has twenty covered bridges click for locations and photos. Ah yes what is a bridge without a little graffiti?

 Or this might be a good place for a picnic with the Grandkids in the future

Going to check out a new spot (at least new to me) in Clear Creek Metro Park.

THE THOMAS CABIN: ABOUT 1/4 MILE FROM PARKING AREA

That looks like a great rock formation for the Grandkids to climb on.

DEVIL’S KITCHEN LANCASTER,OHIO

This time I made it ( would be a lot easier if I weighed 30 pounds less)

Mt. Pleasant is located in Rising Park in Lancaster. I grew up in Lancaster and spent a lot of time there as a kid. I posted the above picture on Face Book and here are some of the comments:

Susie H. Ahh, my old stomping grounds. Spent a lot of time up on that mountain when I was a kid!!

Diane G. Like Susie, these were my old stomping grounds, too, as a kid! We lived on Broad St., across from North School. Do you remember the cave on the North side of the mountain? Been there, done that, too!

Susie H. Yep - we lived on Parkview Drive, right across from the park. Seems like I spent my childhood over there, and yes, I definitely remember the cave - we'd play cowboys & Indians on the mountain & would make that our "home".

Dak S. Had forgotten all about that spot on the mountain, been a lot of years...thanks

Brenda J.James W. can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen lol!

DDiane G.M. Sled riding and ice skating! What fun we had...and can you believe, we were allowed to walk to Rising Park after dark to ice skate! How did any of us survive after ice skating in the cold and the dark during our childhood? Times were so much different then...much better, I believe!

Susie H. Ah yes - ice skating in the dark. Remember when the fire department would come & flood the pond if it got too rough to skate on - those were the days!! I also remember swinging on the swings until the street lights came on - that was my cue to go home. Couldn't do that now. Too bad - the kids today don't know what fun was!

Joe Todd F. Today I take the grandkids to the playground which has been totally redone and is pretty nice. Best I can tell the kids are not there by themselves though. Not like it used to be

An interesting book regarding this area during frontier times is “Forest Rose” by Bennett, Emerson, 1822-1905  The setting for the book is specifically Mt. Pleasant or Standing Stone as it is sometimes called. CLICK and you can download the book for free.

REVENGE NEAR LANCASTER,OHIO
